#7. Principle of Gender
The word 'gender' refers to the existence of male and female energies in everything. In order to manifest, you must work correctly with the genders.
The conscious mind has forceful masculine energy while the subconscious mind has receptive feminine energy. Consequently, masculine energy impregnates feminine energies in order to manifest.
Masculine energies are embodied in your ruminations, dominant thoughts, passionate ritual words, libations and so on. In contrast, those masculine energies impregnate the subconscious (and superconscious?) minds. After all, your subconscious mind simply accepts without question whatever thought, however good or bad it receives. It can be likened with soil into which you can throw any seeds. If the environmental conditions are favorable, the earth will germinate that seed without question. Unfortunately, in most cases, we allow the conscious mind to run rampant, tossing all kinds of seeds indiscriminately and unchecked. Depending on what other seeds you have sown and the strength of your conviction for each seed, some will germinate, while others will not. A magickian ought to be like a strategic farmer.

Applying gender
- Your task is to manage your thoughts because it is the conscious mind over which you have control. We can not actively control the subconscious mind. This is much like how, as a gardener, you can not control the magical transmutation by feminine energy of water and nutrients into leaves. You can only provide the water and nutrients. The most you can actively do with masculine energy is to ensure the mind remains free of thoughts, mental states and actions that can be likened to 'weeds' because they work against our intention. (The most you can do with it is trance work or setting intentions before going into trance like states like before bedtime.)
- Engage your subconscious mind. Feminine energies trust that the masculine energies are enough and that it is now safe to slow down, rest and trust that you are deserving of your intentions and able to receive them. Negative emotional states like anxiety and depression are indicators that the masculine and feminine energies are in misalignment.
- Realignment exercises include meditation to quieten your mind and immersing yourself in the visualization of your intention. (While you can not control the subconscious mind, meditation is like opening the door to it because being mindful, ie present helps to align us more with the rest state of the subconscious mind).
It may seem confusing that this principle even exists, ie because masculine and feminine energies can be understood within the principle of polarity. While the source of this confusion is understandable, this principle deserves its own special place as a principle because it specifically relates to manifestation.

Masculine & Feminine energies
Just to be clear, these energies do not narrowly relate to animal kingdom males and females that manifest off spring. That is only one example of how the principle manifests. More importantly, know that, even within those examples; each sex (male or female) can express masculine and or feminine energies. in fact, people within certain professions, cultures or sub-cultures living under unique circumstances can collectively tend towards one type of energy or another.
I will illustrate the energies by showing them against the contrast of their polar opposite. As the principle of polarity suggested, de-polarization, ie combining the 2 polar extremes is often the ideal. Neither energy is good or bad. Context is everything.
Every day life examples of masculine and feminine energies. As you will see, they have nothing to do with the physical sexes; male or female.
- To be successful at manifesting a partner, a woman must combine both masculine and feminine energies. The masculine energies involve putting herself out in the world to find a partner, learning to groom appropriately and so on. However, she may become unsuccessful if other aspects of her presentation (like her emotional state) are inconsistent with what she has planned. Her emotional state is a feminine energy matter. It relates to her emotional state in the moment. For instance, she should exude confidence in whatever statement made by her dress, makeup and willingness to attend. This confidence comes from feeling that she deserves the man that she wants. To go further, the female body is usually softer and more flexible. If a woman can portray these qualities, she is likely to become all the more attractive. In other words, the masculine and feminine energies must work together.
- To use his masculine energies, a man may hustle very hard. However, he should be able to rest in feminine energy, ie be in a present moment emotional state that enjoys the fruits of his hard work. Being burnt out, stressed, anxious or wanting to work even harder will not secure his well being.
