Autumn Equinox

An equinox is the half-way point of the astrological year. Astronomically, an equinox is a specific minute during which the equator is perfectly aligned with the sun. For this reason, if you researched the equinox for any year, you will receive a date AND time. Arguably, this alignment translates into nearly equal amounts of light and darkness on the planet, called an 'equilux'. In reality, this is debatable because light refracts around the curvature of the earth, meaning that light is still visible beyond sunrise or sunset and one's latitude also impacts amount of visible light and darkness. Needless to say, despite this debate, the equinox is always fixed, regardless of one's physical location on Earth. The equinox marks the changing of seasons.

The autumn equinox aka mabon marks the transition from Summer (when days were longer than its nights). This transition is marked by the fact that the earth tilts towards the converse, ie towards Winter, a season whose nights are longer than days. Summer was brighter and warmer while Autumn will mark the shift towards a darker and colder time. On these bases, paying homage to the autumn equinox can be spiritually significant because of the correspondences between the cosmos and the fractal level of an individual human life.

Taking cues from nature
Kemetic culture recognizes the constant cycles in creation; ie death and rebirth in nature like the equinox, seasonal or any other natural cycles. This culture observes how these cycles correspond with personal human life and a connection with universal forces. Needless to say, it is quite unlike the Gregorian calendar that Julius Caesar introduced to tell time.

Example(s)
  • bear that hibernates from October until the snow melts does into a sleep-state that might be likened to a human who retreats to heal in quiet, without external distractions like the bear's food and external stimuli. The sleep-like state is called torpor which is a state of physical and mental inactivity, loosely comparable with meditation or isolation. During torpor they slow down their body's functions to such a degree that they may not even need to ear or drink water for as long as 6 or 7 months.
  • The 4 stages of metamorphosis of butterflies and moths (egg, larva, pupa and adult) are an example of seasons of a sentient being. The pupa is the transition stage during which the caterpillar goes into a dormant state of isolation. While it may appear that nothing is happening, huge transformations are occurring. Special cells that were always present in the earlier stage but unawaken grow rapidly at this stage to become legs, wings, eyes and other parts of an adult butterfly. Ultimately, after this being's autumnal equinox, it emerges in a way that looks vastly different from its prior self.
  • The hot climate version of a hibernating bear is how a snail estivates during very hot and dry periods of scarcity. Snails draw deeply within their shells and bury themselves under the surface of the soil and go into a state of torpor.
  • The other upcoming equinox (the Spring equinox) can mark the start of a new year. Maybe this is the reason that eggs are used to represent Easter.

Spiritual significance of the autumn equinox, an opening gateway & discernment
Reminiscent of the bear going into hibernation from autumn, the autumn equinox is a time of retreat, healing, deep contemplation, introspection, ascetism (certainly unlike its celebratory opposite, the Spring equinox). Similar to the greater portion of darkness when the sun can not be seen, this period corresponds to human life and its need to focus on the darker, unseen side of oneself that we usually keep hidden.

In other words, this is a time of doing 'shadow work' or returning to source as a means of regenerating oneself for the upcoming abundance of the upcoming spring. Regeneration typically involves learning about those 'dark' sides. These dark parts can relate to addressing unused talents and hobbies, recognizing toxic situations and trauma that do not resonate with your spiritual trajectory and so on. This relates to any aspect of your mind, body or spirit. The spring involves walking in harmony with your true purpose as intended by the universe. This is the path that brings most fulfilment. In short, this period is ideal for deep introspection and planning for the future spring or re-birth. Despite its apparent depressiveness, see it as the opportunity to take some steps back to gather strength you need to launch forward.

The equinox is a gateway between the outward expressions of Sun-dominated Summer and the inward flowing energy of introspection, approaching the moon-dominated winter.

Astrologers suggest that this opened gateway is an opportunity to download Christ energy of intuition and inspiration and to return to simplicity (away from worldly distractions). Part of the introspection also requires you to see how to focus on changing your inner world in order to get more joy, regardless of the external world. In other words, rather than try to change the outer world or external forces, inner world mastery allows you to enjoy peace, even despite chaos in your outer world.

Correspondences with particular spiritual practices include the following.
  • Tarot card 'the hermit (IX)'. Quite symbolically, the imagery of the hermit is of a mature bearded man. The fact that he walks alone and in darkness highlight the isolation away from external influence. His only guidance to illuminate the path ahead is a bright lantern that he carries. Symbolically, this suggests that his only influence is internal because he is heavily reliant on his inner self and not external forces around him. Words associated with this card include ascension, illumination and introspection
  • The Mercury retrograde is an astronomical illusion in which Mercury appears to be moving backwards. Since the planet is associated with communication, the retrograde is seen as backward stepping and retreat (and often blamed for miscommunication or mental health challenges like depression or anxiety). Astrologers suggest that these 3-week periods are unsuitable for discussing sensitive matters, big purchases or major contracts (or at least without extraordinary due diligence). Spiritually, energy spins inwards and more deeply into one's own mind and intuition.
  • Mabon is an alternate Welsh name for autumnal equinox. It is one of the 8 Wiccan sabbats celebrated during each year. (A sabbat or sabbath is a day of religious observance and abstinence from work).
  • The Green Man from Druidism is the spirit of all vegetation. Symbols may include trees. He is balanced, characterizing neither good nor evil. He just is and governs growth from beautiful flowers we love to the unwanted vines that strangle them. Honoring the green man is often done by connecting with mature trees at their roots.

In addition to using the equinox to prepare for the upcoming Spring, one may use it to also prepare for the upcoming eclipse cycle (in October in the Northern hemisphere). About eclipses.

Responding to the autumn equinox portal
Common practices around the autumn equinox include the following.
  • Connect with nature
    • Walk through nature. Spend time barefooted to ground yourself with the earth. Pause at the root of a tree to meditate on your connection with Mother Earth, visualizing your roots extending into the earth. Thank Mother Earth for the harvest of Summer (good health, your ability to have done something that you did, etc). Also observe and connect with the shifting / waning energies of equinox.
    • Give an offering to nature. Before going into the quiet of autumn, give thanks for the abundance of Summer. This is the basis for the harvest celebration traditions. You may place a fruit, twig, leaves from your garden. I like selecting items from my most abundant and beloved plants that gave me the most harvest. You may also pour juice at the roots of a tree with which you connect.
    • Collect articles for your altar from nature. See discussion about an altar for the autumn equinox above.
    • Preserve and consume items of this time. Preservation or storage of something useful for scarce times is one of the keywords of autumn. As the Summer ends and the autumn begins, some Summer produce becomes less scarce. Consider feasting on and preserving produce fitting this description that is emblematic to your location. Example(s). Wine was made by fermenting the Summer harvest of fruits like grapes. This process was rushed before autumn became too cold for grape vines to sustain unpicked grapes. Consider fermenting or otherwise preserving your location-specific produce. Options include making
      • kvass with local fruits and or vegetables. A kvass is a fermented drink with very low levels of alcohol or tartness.
      • Tepache, a fermented drink using only sugar and water with pineapple peels.
      • Fermented ginger with sugar (other fruits as an option) and yeast

  • Clear up space physically, mentally and emotionally. Example(s).
    • physically speaking, this involves cleaning your physical space or at least your altar. Get rid of things you no longer need. Burn sage to energetically clear your space or burn incense. Set up flowers or whatever pleases you
    • Do the same regarding thoughts and relationships. Do banishment rituals and use your symbolic broom to clean the area.
  • Set up an autumn equinox aka 'mabonaltar. Collect natural items that are signatures of the season in your area to customize your altar to the equinox. For instance, if your area experiences colorful leaf fall, collect some of the fallen leaves. Other more tropical or sub-tropical examples that might not include leaf fall include fruits or flowers that are specific to the autumn in your area. You can also collect items in nature to make your own autumn symbols. Example(s).
    • Brooms (spiritual besoms) for rituals. A besom is a tool used to swipe away negative or stagnant energy. It is ideal for the autumn equinox. It is typically made of twigs, dried herbs from the current equinox harvest, , ribbons, charms, crystals and the like tied around a stick. A broom is therefore a type of besom. Broom represent fertility (I suspect of new ideas and plans for the spring). They represent the balance of diving masculine as represented by the phallic handle and the divine feminine energies, represented by the hairy bristles. These may be made of anything like a cinnamon stick to represent the masculine energy with rosemary at one end to represent the feminine energy. Since brooms are associated with cleaning, they seem to also signify a cleaning away of the old to make way for the new season.

    • Harvest of abundant fruits. Cornucopia (a horn of plenty).
    • Fire for burning old things. You may list things that you need to burn.
  • Become like the hibernating bear and acknowledge your pupa-like phase (that resembles the pupa phase of a butterfly's metamorphosis). When possible, isolate yourself from (worldly) distractions.
    • Plant bulbs in the warm darkness of the earth, in keeping with hibernation and preparation for future spring. I even plant garlic bulbs which are most readily available to me.
  • Meditation and rituals. Be clear about your current position and what needs to be kept or let go.  Set an intention for the session.
    • Harvest celebration. Ideally, make lists of things to be celebrated (in your 'spiritual Summer'. Acknowledging these things helps to set your mindset of abundance. Since these are things you wish to keep, you may write these reasons for your gratitude on leaves that you place into a box to which you can access from time to time into the future.
      • Important lessons learnt.
      • Good health
      • Safe living situation
      • Reliable people and so on.
    • Declare your purpose for upcoming season and vision of yourself.
      • Consider not only your personal transformation but also how you affect the collective consciousness
      • I started my own little tradition of making wine during this period ... even though I do not generally drink alcohol. The quiet transformative process of fermentation is symbolic and I am preparing the juice today in a quiet dark place so that it can be enjoyed in the Spring equinox as wine. I tried to make wine with fruits and vegetables that can render the color of the chakra that needed the most work. For instance, red beetroots are not only the color red but a root vegetable and therefore ideal for representing the first chakra. The orange wine I made from papaya and ginger represented the 2nd chakra to me. That way, symbolically, the making of the wine is like the conception of my future self (as it relates to the corresponding chakra) and the Spring equinox would be the birth or rebirth of my future self. While the wine ferments, I can look very closely to see the rising bubbles as a sign that, slowly but surely, the transformation is underway. I could then drink the wine to celebrate at that time of my (re)birth in the spring. I can also offer some of the wine as a powerful libation. Watch the rising bubbles in the video immediately below. See how I make wine

      • Planting bulbs that will blossom in Spring are another version of the wine gesture.
    • In honor of the vision, meditate on things from the old season that must be let go. These are things, people and habits that no longer serve your vision.
      • This may involve
    • Create your alter ego that you will assume permanently. Formulate your new alter ego. Meditate on things that will help you to achieve your purpose in some way or other. Unapologetically embrace the opportunity to re-invent yourself however you see fit. Be specific about what you need and emotionally connect with your already having attained them.
    • As the uncertainty of change in darker months brings anxiety, ask the universe for protection and guidance in this new season
  • See immediately below how others pay homage to the Autumn equinox.

Fun facts
  • During equinoxes, the sun has a stronger magnetic pull on the planet than any other time. Consequently, systems of water are strongly affected by the sun.
    • This is why you likely see heavy downpours of rain near the equator around September. ... and stronger tides.
    • The transatlantic hurricane season peaks in September (starting in mid-August and ending at the end of November).
  • Some keywords associated with autumn include the following. They may inspire the quiet celebrations of the time.
    • abundance (from the Summer harvest); change; preservation (like preserved Summer foods that are worth keeping); balance (between opposite energies whether masculine and feminine to be modest overall);
  • A few different traditional symbols are used for the autumnal equinox
    • half sun and moon. This shows the transition from the Sun-dominated Summer time towards the moon-dominated winter via the autumn.

    • The double spiral. Since this equinox is a bridge between 2 seasons, the symbol illustrates the essence of the 2 seasons: the out-breath of the Summer and the in-breath of incoming winter.

How to Set Up An Altar 101

The word 'altar' means 'high' in Latin. Altars are a sacred space used for connecting with the spirit world for a particular purpose. They may be described as a type of portal between the physical and spiritual worlds. You may use them to connect to the spirit world in different ways, the most common of which include honoring ancestors, harnessing energies of a cosmic cycle (like an equinox), meditation and rituals for which you seek strength and wisdom as you tackle your magnum opus (ie a large and important work of art, music, or literature, especially one regarded as the most important work of an artist, writer or light worker).

Have as few or as many altars as you need. Either way, the more energy you give to an altar, the more powerful its effect in connecting you with the spirit world. Over time, you may not even need to be physically at the altar in order to feel the energy of the spirit world. Essentially, you will eventually carry it with you in a spiritual sense.

This post explains how you may set up an altar and prepare for its ceremonial use. Clearly, not everyone has the resources to be elaborate. Consequently, work with what you have and you can still enjoy success.

Steps for setting up an altar
Get pen and paper to commit to each step, especially if you are still inexperienced.

1. Be clear on your intentions / objectives for the altar of a single ceremony. This will help streamline your preparations.  Who or what do you wish to invite? Altars are commonly dedicated in the following ways. Do not clutter your altar with objects for multiple purposes. Have a separate chess or box for all your currently unused altar items, preferably sorted by objective.
    • to commune with the ancestors
    • astrological events. (See examples like the Autumn equinox, new moon)
    • spirit energies
    • specific gods
    • your magnum opus or other major work projects
    • (recently) passed loved ones
    • specific rituals (psychic cord cuttingcalling upon the ancestors, libationsburning bowl rituals, etc)
    • Write it down on your ceremony's agenda as a descriptive name for the ceremony that incorporates all of the intentions.
      • Thanksgiving to the ___ ancestors
      • "New moon transition ceremony: with 5 elements and ancient ancestors aligned with my personal transformation goals of the x chakra and revolution"
2. Select a private space for the altar that others, like guests, children or pets will not see and or interact with in any way. Also consider matters like safety. For instance, if you will burn candles, avoid spaces with fire hazards like curtains, wooden shelves above or even wind. This simply keeps the energies contained and uncontaminated. If possible, set up the altar in such a way that allows you to face the East (or Northeast). The rationale for this direction is that the light and the second coming of Christ arrives from there.
    • Some people build altars inside the often forgotten space below staircases. They convert these spaces into rooms that are kept private with doors that are locked or hidden.
3. Spiritually and physically cleanse your altar space or preferably the entire house. Example(s)
4. Set up your altar's structure / platform. Elevate your altar as a physical reminder of its sacred importance. Ideally, use natural materials. If you are using part of a pre-existing structure, demarcate your altar's boundaries. The altar's special space should stand out. For instance, you should not forget its boundaries and start piling objects from your daily life there.
    • large stones
    • raised wooden structures.
    • trees
    • a table cloth - or - leaves from large leaved plants to demarcate the specific shelf among many in a wooden cupboard, section of a large table or section of a tree's roots. Large leaves I like include those from bananas, breadfruit, lilies (water, plantain), elephant ear, monstera deliciosa, etc
5. Consider and plan for the suitable duration, upkeep of your altar and even disposal of items.
    • If you maintain an altar over a season, let us say that spans beyond the few days that flowers can last and those flowers are important to the altar's significance, set an alarm or remember otherwise to routinely replace the flowers.
    • Do not leave food on the altar beyond a safe limit. After all, altars should be sacred and deserve more reverence. Blessed or not, the food can cause health problems. If they can, some people burn food shortly after rituals. Since this food is an offering, it is not for your consumption. However, you may place items like fruits and vegetables in the compost. I placed whole apples at the base of the roots of some potted plants.
    • Some people burn their 'burn lists', art work or other things they created during ceremonies.
6. Collect and place commemorative elements that are specific to your current objectives or season. When possible, use natural surfaces. Example(s) of purposes for an altar.
    • For the Autumn equinox, you can make symbolic objects like a broom whose symbolic elements you gathered from nature.
    • For Gideon situations, use either symbols of or real items for the 'upheld flaming torches', 'upheld horns', (broken) clay pot and or the number '300'.
    • For calling upon the ancestors, use personal belongings, traditional objects or symbols of those ancestors.
    • For libations, have the liquid (typically water or wine) and the space into which the liquid will be poured.
    • For psychic cord cutting, tools like ritual knives and brooms.
    • Scriptures or other texts that are relevant to the altar's intention. Reading materials open to relevant page(s), text hung or written around the altar, blank paper & pens for activities, etc. Example(s)
      • poetry to spirit energies, hermetic principles, patterns of the trestle board, mantras from a mystery school, biblical scriptures, burn list along with heat resistant container.
    • A very readily visible agenda for the ceremony. At the head of the agenda is the name of my ceremony (which incorporates the intention or intentions).
      • Ceremony name; cleanse (space, altar, self), magick circle, invitees (4 or 5 elements, ancestors, etc), ritual introduction / explanation (to put you in the right frame of mind), ritual
7. Represent each of the 4 (or 5) elements
The elements exist as components of 3 dimensional reality. Since magick practices involve influencing reality, these elements should appear on your altar. You do not need to clutter your altar with multiple options. One alone will suffice. To this end, you may use variations that are specific to the specific purpose of your altar. To this end, consult the list of symbols that apply to your purpose. Some people speak of 'spirit' as a 5th element. I have therefore added it if it resonates with you.
As a side note; there are no fixed rules when creating an elemental altar. There are no “perfect” elemental tools. Remember that, every object on Earth contains a blend of multiple elemental energies. That said, choose tools that are meaningful to you and serve the objectives of your ceremony. My list below are therefore suggestions only.
    • Air (object set in the East corner)
      • a candle, candle holder & or flowers for the base of the candle that are colored (yellow)
      • a feather
      • smoke
      • incense (sage, frankincense, etc)
      • bell (if you do not have incense)
    • Fire (object set in the Southern corner)
      • an athame (ie a ritual knife)
      • a candle, candle holder & or flowers for the base of the candle  that are colored (red)
      • crystal (sun stone)
      • incense
    • Water (object set in the Western corner)
      • a candle, candle holder & or flowers for the base of the candle that are colored (blue)
      • glass of water. The water may be blessed.
      • sea shells
    • Earth (object set in the Northern corner)
      • a candle, candle holder & or flowers for the base of the candle that are colored (green or brown)
      • coins (like copper pennies)
      • crystals (ie healing crystals)
      • Physical objects from nature. If your altar is outdoors, you need not splurge as much with these.
        • corn (typically a symbol of harvest)
        • fresh flowers
        • herbs
        • potted plant
        • rocks
        • soil
        • seeds
    • Spirit
      • ancestors, images and or names of those ancestors. You can call upon them during your ceremony by saying, "I wish to connect to  ...."
      • your child self, images. This is especially if you are doing shadow work with your child self.
      • Deities
      • Offerings to the spirits
        • Food that your ancestors (and you) love. Consider using foods that you can open and leave on the altar without creating health or other hazards.
        • Wine or water. Read about libations
        • Flowers
        • Your artistic work
          • Gifts for your ancestors on special days like birthdays and other important days

How to program or consecrate healing crystals

Consecrating / Programing healing crystals explained

The process of programming crystals is also called dedicating or consecrating crystals. Despite the method variations, the process is always concerned with ensuring that the user transfers his or her healing intentions to the crystal(s). In other words, the user sets the sacred purpose of his or her healing crystals. I find it useful to liken the programming process to speaking with a beloved and respected partner because healing crystals are believed to synchronize and magnify with your intentions. Since healing crystals can magnify your intentions throughout your life and body, it is best to keep pure intentions. This post discusses the steps for doing the process very thoroughly. The steps are 1) preparing yourself, space and healing crystals, 2) de-programming the healing crystals, 3) programming the healing crystals and 4) using and handling crystals after programming them.

Uses & Benefits of programming healing crystals (aka consecrating healing crystals)

Since a single crystal may have several healing properties, programming crystals can focus the energy of a crystal especially towards a specific property that you need. In that case, if you are concerned with healing specific health concerns either for any period (whether one healing session or a few months), programming healing stones direct the charge appropriately.

As a short background on how healing crystals can influence your wellbeing, the uniquely symmetrical and spiral pattern of their atoms and molecules allow them to emit an electromagnetic charge. Not surprisingly, other electromagnetic energy fields as the auric and chakra fields of humans (and other living beings) can interact with healing crystals. Specifically, your body can absorb or become entrained with the crystals's resonating vibration in what is called 'resonance absorption'.

How to program healing crystals (aka consecrate healing crystals)

1. Prepare yourself, space and healing crystals
  1. Prepare yourself
    1. Have a ritual bath
    2. Dry off naturally
  2. Prepare your sacred space
    1. Call upon your master of the light (Jesus Christ, Buddha and so on)
    2. If you use more advanced rituals, prepare your altar and cast a sacred circle
    3. Have a crystal bag or natural fabric (like cotton, wool or silk) for storage
  3. Prepare your healing crystals
    1. Physically clean your healing crystals by simply washing them in room temperature water
    2. Activate your healing crystals if they have been tucked away for a long time and out of use. This refers to practices that 'awakens' them like handling, looking at and sleeping with them.
    3. -- --
    4. Spiritually cleanse the healing crystals (ie to remove any negative energy they might have picked up and to re-energize them). This process may be done roughly every 2 weeks or more frequently if you need to remove unwanted negative energies sooner. This process requires you to use one or several of the following techniques
      1. Bury in sea salt
      2. Soak in sea salt water or ocean for roughly 7 hours in normal circumstances and a few days for highly negative situations (for only those crystals that are water and salt resistant). A solution of roughly 30% salt is a rough guide. Do not touch or re-use the water when done. Additionally, rinse the healing crystals afterwards in natural fresh water.
      3. Smudge the healing crystals with herbs or even incenses (like frankincense). Do not wave your hands through the smoke as this attracts negative energy to yourself. Afterwards, smudge your hands and if you wish, entire body self. Alternatively, you could wash your hands in salt water afterwards.
      4. Bath in moonlight (safe for all healing crystals)
      5. Bath in sunlight (not safe for some healing crystals like colored quartz varieties as amethyst or citrine
      6. Bury in the earth
      7. Reiki energy and or symbols
      8. Wash or soak in natural body of natural fresh water from creeks, rivers and so on. If possible, avoid chlorinated or otherwise de-mineralized water.
      9. Visualize beams of light
      10. Rub the healing crystal(s) under running cool fresh water (neither too hot or cold)

2. De-program the healing crystals
Before you consecrate or program healing crystals, it is best to first 'clear' them of pre-existing energies that may be stagnant, residual and or negative energies. This is necessary for all healing crystals, even newly acquired crystals that could carry residual energies from previous handlers (store clerks, mailman and so on). During the process, hold your intentions strongly in your mind. Afterwards, let go of the thought.
  1. If your healing crystals can fit into the palm of a hand, place the crystal(s) into a palm. You may do this for multiple crystals at a time. To de-program wands, hold it in at one of its ends. To de-program healing crystals that are too large to hold, such as clusters, place your hands onto the surface of the crystal.
  2. Imagine a healing light beaming onto the crystal. For wands, imagine the light beaming in and then out through the exposed tip of the wand. For chakra wands, imagine the different chakra colo(u)rs activating within the wand. Visualize the light piercing through and dissipating the old energies. You may also use prayers (like the prayer for banishing negativity)
  3. Thankfully command the crystal to 'forget' old memories. The statement can be as follows. "Thank you for forgetting your past memories."

3. Program your healing crystals
During the process, hold your intentions strongly in your mind. Afterwards, let go of the thought.
  1. If your healing crystals can fit into the palm of a hand, place the crystal(s) into your left palm (your receiving hand) and place your right hand (projective hand) downwards over the crystal. You may do this for multiple crystals at a time. To program wands, hold it in at one of its ends. To program healing crystals that are too large to hold, such as clusters, place your hands onto the surface of the crystal.
  2. Transfer your thoughts and intentions for the crystal in a statement, either in your mind or aloud. (Remember that, it is with intention that you set your mind and everything in motion. Thoughts are very powerful). The statement can be as follows. "Thank you for bringing healing to my pancreas." or "Thank you for bringing me courage."
  3. Imagine and feel that the statement has already happened. For instance, this may involve visualizing the healing already done, while engaging your other senses and emotions. Hold such thoughts for roughly 30 seconds to a minute.
  4. Repeat the statement 3 times

4. After you program healing crystals
  1. Do not allow others to handle your healing crystals. For instance, do not display them within the reach of others.
  2. Store your healing crystals
    1. In a drawer
    2. Wrapped inside of a natural (not synthetic) fabric like cotton, silk or wool. Ideally, this fabric should be red since red has the slowest rate of luminous absorption and vibration. In other words, it protects the crystals from receiving many external energies or expending their own.
  3. Wear, carry or hold your healing crystals as usual
  4. Charge your healing crystals from time to time

How to Charge Healing Crystals

Charging Healing Crystals Explained

The uniquely symmetrical and spiral pattern of their atoms and molecules allow healing crystals to naturally emit electromagnetic energy. However, like batteries, healing crystals need to be recharged routinely. Consequently, we must use powerful energy sources to charge our healing crystals (through radiation).

How to Charge Healing Crystals

  1. Be prepared to charge crystals yourself. In other words, do not allow others to do it for you. An exception to this is when you are a healer wishing to charge healing crystals for clients. If possible, do this process after you program your healing crystals (since the programming process expends some of a crystal's electromagnetic energy).
  2. After cleaning the healing crystals and cleaning your sacred place (example by saging)
  3. Place the healing crystals in the charging location:
    1. Moon bathing. Charge your healing crystals by placing them in the a) moonlight of the full moon, b) within 3 days before and after the full moon or c) during the waxing moon (not the waning moon since some of the energy from the full moon are dissipating at that time). Leave the crystals under this light overnight All healing crystals can be safely charged in moonlight.
    2. Sun bathing. Charge your healing crystals by placing them in the sun for a few hours. Beware, some healing crystals should not be charged in sunlight. For instance, colored quartz varieties like amethyst and citrine should not be charged in the sunlight to prevent their color from fading.
    3. Universal electromagnetic energy (aka qi, chi, life force). Apply Reiki energy and or symbols to your healing crystals
    4. Grounding energies. Charge your healing crystals by burying them in the earth.
    5. Sea salt. Charge your healing crystals by burying them in sea salt.
    6. Sea salt water. Charge your healing crystals by burying them in sea salt water (from the ocean or by combining water with store-bought sea salt)
  4. Store healing crystals to prevent excessive discharge of energy. For instance, put the crystals in a wooden draw or bod. Otherwise, wrap them inside of a natural (not synthetic) fabric like cotton, silk or wool. Ideally, this fabric should be red since red has the slowest rate of luminous absorption and vibration. In other words, it protects the crystals from expending their energies (or even receiving external energies).
-- -- FAQs:
Q: Do healing gemstone need to be re-programmed after being charged each time?
A: No, after you program healing gemstones, the intentions remain fixed irrespective of how frequently you charge your healing gemstones, (ie until you deprogram and reprogram them).
